Exfoliation 101: How to Do It Right for Your Skin Type

Exfoliation can be your skin’s best friend or worst enemy depending on how you do it. Done right, it clears pores, smooths texture, and boosts radiance. Done too often or with the wrong product, it can lead to irritation and damage.

Here’s how to exfoliate smartly, based on your skin type.

Oily or acne-prone skin

Use a BHA (like salicylic acid) 2–3 times per week. It penetrates deep into pores and helps unclog them. Start slow and avoid layering too many actives.

Dry or sensitive skin

Go for a gentle AHA like lactic acid once a week. Look for formulas that combine exfoliants with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin.

Normal or combination skin

You can mix it up. Use chemical exfoliants once or twice weekly and add a mild physical exfoliant (like a natural scrub) occasionally for extra glow. Just never overdo both in the same day.

Key tip: Always follow with SPF

Exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun. Protect your progress by wearing SPF daily, especially after exfoliating.

In Summary:
Exfoliation is powerful when used with care. Choose the right product, don’t overdo it, and treat your skin gently. It’ll thank you with that smooth, healthy glow.
