How to Layer Your Skincare Products in the Right Order

If your skincare shelf looks like a mini spa, but you’re not sure what goes on first, you’re not alone. Applying products in the right order helps your skin absorb them better and ensures each one does its job.

The correct order of skincare products

  1. Cleanser – Start with a clean canvas

  2. Toner or essence – Preps the skin and adds hydration

  3. Serum – Delivers targeted active ingredients

  4. Eye cream – Treats the delicate area around your eyes

  5. Moisturizer – Seals everything in and keeps skin soft

  6. SPF (morning only) – Protects your skin from sun damage

A few rules of thumb

Apply products from thinnest to thickest texture. Let each layer absorb for a few seconds before moving on. And if you’re using actives like retinol or acids, keep them separated from ingredients that may clash, like vitamin C.

Bonus tip: Less is more. You don’t need every product on the market. Focus on what your skin truly needs and keep it consistent.
