The Beginner’s Guide to Double Cleansing

If you wear sunscreen or makeup daily, or live in a city with pollution, your regular cleanser might not be cutting it. That’s where double cleansing comes in.

What is double cleansing?

It’s a two-step face cleansing method. First, you use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, SPF, and excess sebum. Then, you follow with a water-based cleanser to wash away sweat, dirt, and any leftover impurities.

Why it works

Oil attracts oil, which means an oil-based cleanser melts away makeup and buildup without stripping your skin. The second cleanse ensures your pores are clean and ready to absorb your skincare products.

Who should do it?

Double cleansing is great for most skin types, especially if you wear makeup, sunscreen, or have oily or acne-prone skin. If your skin is sensitive, just make sure both cleansers are gentle and fragrance-free.

When to do it

Only at night. In the morning, a single gentle cleanse is enough.

Quick tip: Always rinse thoroughly and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Follow up with a hydrating toner or serum to lock in moisture.
